Why We Love It: Abercrombie & Fitch’s Love Low Rise Baggy Jean is like a hard-to-source, vintage jean from the ‘90s, except you don’t have to dig through endless racks and bins to find it. The brand crafted it to have a curve-hugging fit that women with wide hips will love. Its signature waistband effectively eliminates the gap (a.k.a. the space between your lower back and the waistband) often caused by regular-fit denim. By adding additional room in the hip and thigh areas, this pair of jeans caters specifically to wide hips. Plus, it comes in five different lengths: extra short, short, regular, long, and extra long.
Who It’s For: This relaxed and smooth fit enhances natural curves rather than tugging at them, making these jeans a go-to choice for women seeking both comfort and a fashion-forward silhouette.
What Our Experts Say: “I love that these jeans have a vintage look but with comfort stretch, so you don’t feel restricted as you move,” Lauren Gray, a size-inclusive fashion specialist and founder of What Lo Wants, says. “These also cater to women who have a larger hip-to-waist ratio, so you don’t have gapping at the back.”
Size: 23–37 | Material: Cotton, elastane, polyester

Why We Love It: Looking for the ultimate wardrobe upgrade that won’t break the bank? H&M’s Curvy Fit Ultra High Jeans seamlessly blend a vintage look with modern comfort, all while keeping a wide range of body shapes in mind. These high-rise jeans elongate the legs while providing exceptional coverage and support around the waist. The fit is tailored to accommodate wide hips, with a contouring waistband that smooths out any gapping and a roomier thigh area that allows for movement.
Who It’s For: Someone looking for an affordable pair of jeans that highlights and celebrates curves. These jeans also give off a contemporary look that’s easy to wear and versatile to style, whether that be with a T-shirt and sneakers or a blazer and boots.
What Our Experts Say: “H&M has so many options for curvy girls, which I think is awesome for such a big brand like that to cater and care for curvy girls,” says Micaéla Verrelien, a content creator and entrepreneur.

Why We Love It: Fashion editors love this Danish brand for its quirky, trend-forward designs, and this bootcut jean is no exception. It blends a contemporary look (this print!) with Scandinavian sensibilities. The jean’s bootcut silhouette elongates the legs while the hemline’s slit detailing allows you to highlight a range of footwear, from chunky loafers to heeled boots.
Who It’s For: Someone who wants an eye-catching pair of jeans with details that show off their footwear. Although these aren’t marketed specifically to people with curves, an expert recommends these as a fun standby style.
What Our Experts Say: “These Ganni jeans are a great option if you are looking to make a statement,” says Leeron Skurnik, a senior designer at Universal Standard. “They feature a high-rise, slight stretch, and a flattering flare leg, which works well for a wide hip.”

Why We Love It: If you’ve never checked out Free People’s in-house denim brands, now is the time to take a look. We the Free has a collection that caters to curvier frames, and all of its jeans have an additional 2 inches between the waist and hips. We’re gravitating toward this high-rise flare thanks to its flattering cut and the variety in washes.
Who It’s For: Flared jeans never go out of style, and these are great for shoppers who want a versatile pair. You can dress the dark denim wash up or down at a moment’s notice, whether it’s for a day at the office with a blouse and jacket, or on the weekend with a sweatshirt. Just be sure to look at the inseam lengths to find which one will work best for your height, especially if you want to pair them with flats.

Why We Love It: This pair’s high-rise band cinches the waistline, but Universal Standard added extra room in its design to avoid hugging curves too tightly. The straight-leg cut provides a sleek look that balances proportions and enhances natural shape, while the contoured waistband smooths and minimizes gapping. The distressed details across the legs give this particular style a weekend-ready, relaxed feel. This pair comes in two lengths: regular and long. Wear them with a cozy knit and your favorite sneakers for errands or brunch.
Who It’s For: If you’re looking for denim that blends tailored sophistication with a relaxed fit and works on a wider hip-to-waist ratio, these Universal Standard jeans are the answer.
What Our Experts Say: “These are our best-selling, high-rise curve jeans,” says Skurnik. “They are made with structured, stretch denim and constructed for those with over a 10-inch waist-to-hip difference for a close waist fit in a straight-leg style.” She ensures that with this precise construction, there isn’t any awkward gapping, digging, cinching, or pulling. “The end result is a stunning silhouette and comfortable, all-day fit,” she says.

:max_bytes(150000):strip_icc()/levis-womens-ribcage-bell-bottom-jeans-d390c1bb34674a68acf29cd84ddd677c.jpg)
Why We Love It: Levi’s Ribcage Bell Women’s Jeans have a cult following, and we understand why. This style’s high-rise fit provides excellent coverage and support, defining the waist while preventing the gapping that commonly happens with low-rise jeans. We suggest women with wide hips try the wide-leg, bell-bottom version. It balances proportions by adding extra room in the thighs and hips while creating a narrowing effect down the leg. The silhouette also has a more tailored look, so you can wear it for dressy and casual occasions. We recommend choosing the dark wash, which has low stretch, as a versatile option for the office or a night out.
Who It’s For: Want a classic, playful pair of jeans that feels supportive in all the right places, flares out at the bottom, and accentuates your natural curves? Add the Levi’s Ribcage Bell Women’s Jeans to your cart.
What Our Experts Say: “I love this super high rise, as well as the balance of some stretch and structure,” Skurnik says. “It’s the perfect combination with a classic, bootcut silhouette.”

Why We Love It: The ‘90s are calling! Another one of our favorite straight-leg options, these jeans are Good American, a size-inclusive brand designed for all body types. This jean has a mid-rise waist, a dropped crotch, and a roomy, straight-leg fit that gives it an overall relaxed feel. The secret is in the waistband, which has “tummy-smoothing technology” to eliminate any gaps. Offering the right balance of stretch and structure, these jeans hug curves in all the right places, plus they come in a wide size range. The hardest part is choosing which wash to buy—we love them all.
Who It’s For: These Good American jeans are for those who want a fashionable pair of jeans with a relaxed fit. They support curves without feeling tight or constricting.
What Our Experts Say: “These jeans are my Roman empire,” Gray says. “They have a gorgeous drape and softness since they are 30 percent Tencel. The added elastane also provides a little bit of give while still maintaining a true vintage look.” Verrelien also recommends the brand’s Good Ease Relaxed Jeans, a similar style to the ‘90s Relaxed. “I love this jean so much because you get the oversized look, but your waist is not ignored because it has the gap-proof waistband.”

Why We Love It: Madewell’s denim line for curvy bodies is full of different silhouettes. The narrow waist design has a little extra room in the hips and thighs, making it ideal for those with an hourglass shape. The tapered seam in front creates a lengthening, creased effect, and slant pockets ensure you still have a place to keep your phone handy while running out for a quick coffee break.
Who It’s For: This pair of jeans is perfect for someone seeking elevated denim. The brand’s take on the trouser jean blends the best of both worlds; It has the comfort of luxe denim with the look of a professional trouser. You can wear this pair to work without worrying about breaking any dress codes.
What Our Experts Say: Verrelien likes that Madewell has a line devoted to curvy women, and the jeans come in washes and silhouettes that most other brands don’t carry, specifically for those with wider hips.

Why We Love It: This style has the highest rise in Everlane’s Curvy Collection, a line dedicated exclusively to those with wide hips and small waists. This pair features a two-piece contouring waistband that has no stretch (because of this, the brand recommends sizing up for a relaxed fit). You’ll find some stretch throughout the leg with this hybrid, organic cotton denim, resulting in a sculpted fit around the bum for added lift and bounce. You can choose from two inseam lengths: 27.5 inches and 29.5 inches.
Who It’s For: The shopper who loves a high-rise fit and doesn’t require a waistband with stretch will be a big fan of these straight-leg jeans.

Why We Love It: Customers love this high-waisted style’s fit and feel. Crafted from stretchy denim, it adapts to your unique body shape. The curvy fit supports those with small waists while adding extra room in the hip and seat area. The ankle length adds contemporary edge, making this pair versatile enough to pair with both casual and dressy footwear. Flats, sneakers, and boots all work well with this shape, and you can choose from petite, regular, or tall inseams. The affordable price point only sweetens the deal.
Who It’s For: The beauty of an ankle-length, straight-cut jean is that you can showcase so many different types of footwear. These have some stretch, so they’re ideal for those seeking a high-waisted pair that molds to the body… and doesn’t drag on the floor.
Size: 00–30 | Material: Cotton, recycled cotton, spandex
:max_bytes(150000):strip_icc()/ann-taylor-mid-rise-boot-cut-jeans-curvy-fit-76d3eb2c1567440bae2546709eac339f.jpg)
Why We Love It: Thoughtful design elements make Ann Taylor’s bootcut jeans a winner in our book. The mid-rise offers a comfortable and supportive waistband that sits at a natural point on the torso, providing ample coverage without creating gaps. Don’t reserve these white jeans for only summer either; Monochrome dressing with winter whites is a great way to extend your white jeans’ lives past Labor Day. Simply add a knit and a wool coat, and you’re good to go.
Who It’s For: This pair’s waistband is especially beneficial for women with wide hips, as it helps streamline the figure while ensuring a secure fit. Smoothing pockets hold their shape for a full day of wear, too, while the stretchy denim sculpts and shapes in all the right places—which isn’t always a guarantee for white jeans.
Size: 00–18 | Material: Cotton, elastane
What to Keep in Mind
- Fabric: Our experts recommend looking for denim with some stretch. “Stretch denim can combine the classic look of rigid denim with exceptional comfort,” Skurnik says. “Just the right amount of stretch goes a long way in achieving a great fit and also a good look,” Gray tells InStyle. “I personally love vintage-looking denim, but that extremely rigid denim fights against my curves when I move.” Elastane is also important to Verrelien. “If I wear a tighter jean, I for sure want it to have elastane because this helps with flexibility and comfort,” she says. Just be aware of how much elastane there is, as Gray notes that too much can make jeans look like jeggings.
- Fit: For women with wide hips, jeans’ rise is important. “A higher rise, sitting at the natural waistline, provides a secure fit and complements a wide range of body shapes,” says Skurnik. “High-rise jeans reduce the risk of waist gaping and will have a snug fit that stays in place throughout the day.” Gray recommends trying a variety of brands since she’s found a lot of curvy jeans to have rises that are too short or too long. “That’s why it’s so important for companies to actually test fit on curvy bodies and test movement, not just rely on a grading rule,” she says.
- Construction: “Design elements like a contouring waistband and back darts are designed to follow the body’s curves, reducing the likelihood of gapping at the waist,” Skurnik says. Other examples she notes are elasticated waistbands and angled pockets that refine the fit and appearance. Pockets are important to Gray, too. “Wider hips need proportionate pockets,” she says. “I find this is a good way to tell which companies are intentional about how jeans fit for curvier customers.”
Your Questions, Answered
Is there a particular style or rise that works best for women with wider hips?
Verrelien prefers a high-rise fit or mom jean. She recommends something “tighter at the waist, which is good if you have a smaller waist and need more space in the hips area.” But because there’s so much variation from body to body, Gray suggests getting to know your own body type first and then looking for the denim styles and silhouettes you like (and which brands cater to your desired look). “Date around with different styles and brands and don’t get discouraged,” she says. “Jeans are personal, which is why people tend to have go-to brands.”
How can women with wide hips shop for jeans online?
Skurnik recommends starting with brands that offer a line crafted specifically for curvy women because it’s often where brands sell styles fitted for wider hips. “These jeans often feature construction details designed to enhance fit and minimize waist-gaping,” she says. “Look for a comprehensive size chart with detailed rise measurements so you get a better understanding of where the jeans may sit on your body.” Gray recommends looking for photos of customers wearing the jeans (you can look for models in brand imagery, Instagram, tagged pictures, etc.) “Check customer reviews and photos for additional sizing insights and see how the jeans fit different body shapes,” Skurnik says. “It’s always helpful to see clothing on all shapes and sizes to get a better understanding of how the pieces might look on you.”
