Best Trainers for Women: High Street, Designer and More

Any fashion editor worth their salt will tell you that the best trainers can absolutely make an outfit – and I have to reluctantly agree, despite my notorious aversion to them.

It certainly helps that some of my favourite designers like Bottega and Loewe have just launched sleek styles for autumn/winter 2024. As well as other cult sneaker brands including Veja, adidas and Puma who have also added some fresh styles to their repertoire.

Watch out for the adidas SL 72, already lauded as the new Samba, and the Puma Palermo, as seen on Em Rata and Dua Lipa, which come in a tan and orange colour way I’m obsessed with for autumn.

Plus, having now invested in a few pairs of trainers, I’ve found they go with a surprising amount of what I own, from white jeans to dark denim. They can even be worn to dress down occasionwear dresses for a chic day look.

AW24 trainer trends

For autumn/winter 24, we’re seeing plenty of the autumn trends pulled into trending trainer styles. New Balance X Miu Miu’s trending velvet style are still a huge hit with the influencer set while Chloé’s sell out Nama sneaker, launched as part of their SS22 collection, have caused crochet to take on a darker hue for the new season(Katie Holmes can’t stop wearing hers).

Retro styles like Converse Chuck Taylors and the Nike Blazer sneakers are still going strong, and I’m loving New Balance’s T500, a unisex style inspired by the 80s.

Chunky trainers are still high on the agenda too, with New Balance Unisex 530 still selling out on a regular basis and Ellesse releasing the LSR sneaker to celebrate their 65th anniversary. For something minimal, try a white trainer, seen everywhere on TikTok and at Fashion Week.
