Over the past season or two, some of the best fashion trainers have trumped everything else in our shoe closets and have (rightfully) gained position number one in the footwear rankings of fashion’s elite.
Why? Well, when looking for the perfect thing to put on our feet and go outside in – i.e. something that not only looks good but is also as comfortable as the slippers we’ll be swapping them for – a pair of trainers is the most obvious answer. While we love winter boots, loafers, and even sometimes a kitten heel for everyday wear, they can pinch and rub and often require breaking in. Trainers, however, don’t.
Running shoes are probably the sneakers we buy most regularly for evident reasons (they wear out), but they’re not exactly an exciting purchase. If you really want to treat yourself this season, a pair of women’s fashion trainers is where it’s at, and virtually all the SS24 runways would agree. From Comme des Garçons, Gucci, and Chloé to the pedicured feet of Kendall Jenner, Bella Hadid, and Emily Ratajkowski, trainers remain a firm favourite.

What are the trainers everyone is wearing?
For 2024, Adidas Gazelles and Sambas are not going anywhere – in fact, if anything, they’re only becoming more popular thanks to bold new colourways and collabs (cough, Wales Bonner). Think about picking up a green or red pair now and thank yourself later. Elsewhere, in the chunky trainer/dad trainer department, New Balance remains ever-popular, too, with the 530 silhouettes still being their bestseller and Vejas reigning as everyone’s favourite white trainers. Even Meghan Markle and Emma Watson are fans.
An all-year-round wardrobe hero – pairing perfectly with everything from winter coats to summer dresses and trouser suits – there’s nothing like that box-fresh feeling of a pair of the best trainers.
