“Right now, the energy centers around jeans that feel sophisticated but lived in. We’ve been obsessed with inspiration coming from the early ’90s—clean, but with a bit of attitude. It’s the denim you actually want to wear: all-day easy, dinner-ready, and perfect for a quick weekend escape,” says Marianne Gallagher McDonald, the creative director for Citizens of Humanity. In 2026, think stovepipe jeans to pair with classic white tees, wearable versions of low-rise Y2K revivals, and printed denim that’s retro, not dated. Cigarette Styles

Dior Spring/Summer 2026

After seasons of balloon-leg jeans, it seems that in 2026 we’re paring it back a bit. Perhaps inspired by Parisian street style or ’90s fashion, stovepipe jeans–or cigarette jeans, depending on your preferred verbiage–are making a comeback. “From a directional perspective, we’re seeing a shift away from exaggerated silhouettes and toward straighter legs and more refined proportions. The focus is on balance and tailoring–silhouettes that feel considered and modern, rather than novelty-driven shapes,” says Karen Phelps, the creative director of Agolde. Unlike skinny jeans, this lengthening silhouette fits snugly at the waist but leaves room in the legs, allowing you to wear a pair of boots beneath them if you so choose.

Low-Rise Revival

In 2026, “We’re seeing a return to lower-rise denim, paired with longer, leaner lines,” says Phelps. While teeny-tiny Y2K jeans may have started as a quick trend, more wearable versions are going to be everywhere in the coming year. “We’re seeing that the appetite for low-rise revival is far more enduring,” adds McDonald. “Low-rise has introduced a new, more current silhouette, one that feels considered and genuinely flattering, worlds away from the early-2000s versions.”

Shades of Gray

Though nothing could make us put blue jeans on the back burner, make room for new colorways to enter your wardrobe in the coming year. “We’re shifting away from the inky blacks and deep indigos that anchored last season, and centering around gray denim. It works as a neutral, but reads more directional, cool, understated, and modern,” notes McDonald. “What makes it so compelling for us is its styling range—we find that gray sharpens softer palettes, elevates color, and gives even the simplest look a refined, fashion-forward finish.”

Big & Baggy

Comfort is always in style, and when it comes to denim, baggy does it best. While the frame-draping, voluminous jeans we’ve seen the past few seasons will linger, prepare for a slightly more tapered approach in 2026. Tailored elements like elegant pleating and waist-cinching details will keep the style fresh for the coming year. “Sculptural pieces with waist definition and longer lines feel key,” says Phelps.

Prints, Please!

Call it a return to whimsy or a way to make your jeans the star of the show. “Graphic, vintage-inspired prints are trending upward right now,” says McDonald. “Timeless in spirit, but not nostalgic in a way that feels dated. For womenswear, we’re introducing vintage feminine florals on denim this season, an unexpected twist that feels fresh and wearable. Early response has been strong, and the print story is already resonating.” If bold patterns feel out of your wheelhouse, metallic detailing is a nice way to step out of your comfort zone. “Strong color, foil finishes, and silver accents are emerging as a fresh way to express individuality in denim, while still feeling polished and intentional,” adds Phelps.
